Offline Reconstruction using Chronosphere

The default settings for the reconstruct() function uses the GPlates API to reconstruct the geographical coordinates from present day to their paleo-positions. You can also use the reconstruct() function to locally run GPlates for offline reconstruction of paleocoordinates. You may want to do so if:

  • You have a poor or no internet connection
  • You have a large volume of data and your machine can provide higher computational power than the Gplates server
  • You don’t want to send your data to a remote server
